Recognise
Heavy panting, breathing difficulty, weakness, confusion, vomiting, collapse or seizures can indicate a serious heat-related emergency.
Cool
Stop activity, move the dog out of the heat, contact a vet and begin cooling with water while arranging urgent veterinary care.
Call
Every dog with suspected heatstroke needs veterinary advice. Continue to follow the veterinary team’s instructions during transport.
Always escalate
Contact a veterinary professional early and follow their instructions. Do not give human medicines or delay urgent veterinary care to continue a checklist.
